FG donates sports equipment worth millions to 45 primary schools in Ekiti


Ado-Ekiti– The Federal Government, through the National Lottery Trust Fund, NLTF on Tuesday donated Sports equipment worth millions of naira to forty-five primary schools in Ekiti State. 

The equipments presented to these schools includes Badminton, Athletics, (track and field), Taekwondo, Judo, Table tennis, Basketball, Football, Volleyball and Handball. At the presentation ceremony in Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, ‎the Executive Secretary, National Lottery Trust Fund, Engr. Habu Gumel, said the equipment is for the advancement, upliftment and promotion of sports development, education, social services, public welfare and relief. 

Gumel, noted that “the equipment is primarily to enhance the nation’s capacity to grow and expand its talent-base by the interest and involvement of the children of primary school age in sporting activities is realized in the country”.

The seasoned sports administrator said “they are confident that the intervention programme will lead to the discovery of new talents in sports that abound in our communities and rural areas and also assist their physical and professional development”. 

The NLTF boss reaffirms that President Muhammadu Buhari led administration is committed to advancing and promoting grassroot sports development in the country and this exercise of equipping our public primary schools with quality sports equipment through funding from the national lottery is a clear demonstration of government’s desire to foster better inclusion of the most vulnerable segments of the society especially the school children. 

Gumel, warned all stakeholders to put the equipment to good use in the schools and ensure their proper security, saying “you must ensure the safekeeping of these equipment so that they do not get stolen” He pointed out that they have alerted security agencies to apprehend any culprit who divert these Federal Government intervention materials. 

‎The Zonal Coordinator, South West Zone, NLTF, Hajiya Buhari Ajara, said the essence of the intervention is to promote grass roots sports development in the country with the specific objectives of enhancing the capacity of the nation to grow and expand her talent base by securing the interest and involvement of children of primary schools in sporting activities. 

Hajiya Ajara, noted that the programme is expected to improve the nation’s future performance in sports at all levels by harnessing the potentials of our yound talents and nurture their transition to world class athletes, sports men and women.
