Some aggrieved aspirants under the aegis of PDP Candidates and Stakeholders Forum, yesterday, rejected the results of last Saturday’s national convention of the party which produced Prince Uche Secondus as national chairman.
They also called on the Chairman of the Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Walid Jibrin, to call an emergency meeting of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

‎Comrade Franklyne Edede, who contested for the office of PDP National Youth Leader and Chief Godwin Chinedu Duru, who contested for the office of National Organising
Secretary, said the meeting was necessary to address contentious issues.
Prince Obi-Nwosu Emmanuel, Hassan Adamu and Alhaji Mohammed Abubakar also appended their signatures on the document as stakeholders.
‎”We the concerned candidates and stakeholders hereby reject in totality the result released at the 9th December, 2017 National Elective Convention instead of the true result.
“We, therefore, demand the immediate ‎recall of the purported result of the actual votes cast by delegates at the convention.
“We call on the Chairman of ‎BoT to ensure the immediate execution of this demand by convening an emergency NEC meeting within 7 days from the date of this notice.
“Failure to address the items‎ above, we would have no option but to announce the correct results and inaugurate the authentic National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP,” they said.
However, the BoT Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin couldn’t respond to a phone call and a text message sent to him at the time of filing this report.

At least 21 different vehicles and five motorcycles were burnt on Wednesday in Lagos after a tanker laden with petroleum product had exploded.
Confirming the incident, Mr Kehinde Adebayo, the spokesman of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), however, said no life was lost in the incident.

“A distress call was passed to the LASEMA Response Team on 13th December concerning a tanker on fire at FESTAC link bridge.
“Upon arrival to the scene of incident at about 12:45p.m, it was revealed that a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres AGO (diesel) detached from its truck and fell by its side.
“It later exploded due to an aftermath ignition of a commuter bus.
“However, no life was lost but one adult male sustained a minor injury. The inferno affected 21 cars (18 cars and 3 commuter buses) and 5 bikes.
“The agency’s rescue/recovery equipment is on ground to ensure the burnt vehicles are taken off the road,” he said.
Adebayo said combined effort of the emergency responders – LRT, Police, Lagos Fire Service, Federal Fire Service and Lagos Neighborhood Watch – were able to put the fire out at 2:20 p.m.
He said proper investigation would be conducted on the incident. (NAN)

The Federal Government has lost $21 billion (about N7.6trn) to faulty agreements with international oil companies from 1993 to 2017.
Addressing State House reporters after the cabinet meeting yesterday, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu, said the loss was due to failure to act on the provision of Section 15 of the Production Sharing Contracts of the Deep Offshore Act.

The Act stipulates that once the price of crude exceeds $20 per barrel, steps would be taken to distribute “premium element” at an agreed premium level for the Federal Government for higher revenue. This was not the case over the last 20 years.
The minister said the Federal Executive Council, therefore, approved a proposal to amend the Act in order to increase oil revenue by $2 billion.
He said he would work with the Attorney-General of the Federation on the proposed amendment.
“In 2013, there was a notice to oil companies that we were going to do this but we didn’t follow through in terms of going to council to get approval. One of the things we’ve worked on very hard over the last 20 years is to get that amendment because once we do, the net effect for us is close to $2 billion extra revenue for the federation,” the minister said.
On why government continued maintaining refineries rather than establish new ones, Kachikwu said they could be fixed, stressing this would require about $2bn from private sector players.
