President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday said he will still win an election in Kano State because of the overwhelming reception he got at the start of his two-day visit.
The president spoke when he paid homage to the Emir of Kano Muhammadu Sanusi II in his palace.

“I am overwhelmed by the reception the people of Kano offered to me. This has indicated that I can still win an election in Kano. The people of Kano are aware of the tremendous jobs we did on security and agriculture,” Buhari said.
He said his government had played significant roles in restoring peace and harmony in the northeast.
“We have recorded tremendous successes in our efforts to achieve the three agenda of my government; security, economy, and fight against corruption,” he said.
“Nigeria, Chad and Niger Republic have succeeded in crushing Boko Haram insurgents in the Northeast. The countries have come together to fight a common goal because without peace and stability we cannot achieve anything,” he said.
President Buhari said the north is important to the country, because “If there is peace and stability in the north, there will be peace and stability in the whole country and if there is a problem in the region it will affect the entire country.”
The president said he had seen a lot in politics since he joined it in 2003, adding that Nigerians must understand the difference between democratic and military administration.
“When I was the military head of state, I have arrested many people and jailed them for alleged corruption and in the end, I also ended in a jail,” he said.
He lamented that from 1999 to 2014, Nigeria got so much wealth but it was misused.
“They squandered the money and we still don’t have a constant power supply, no good education for our children and we don’t have good hospitals and roads,” he said.

As fuel scarcity bites harder across the country, the Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has attributed the situation to what he described as cabal in the downstream sector. He said that tanker drivers are not on strike.
NUPENG, in a release yesterday, said its members are not responsible for the present shortage of petroleum products being experienced nationwide.

According to its president, Mr Igwe Achese, Petroleum Tanker Drivers (PTD) branch of NUPENG are working and lifting products to the nooks and crannies of the country.
The union said its members are not on strike and should not be blamed for the current scarcity of petroleum products in the country.
It blamed the policy makers of the country for not adhering to its calls for the urgent need to rehabilitate the nation’s four refineries to get them working optimally.
NUPENG stated that the cabal in the downstream sector are at work sabotaging all efforts to make products available through revamping of the nation’s four refineries.
It added that the Fedral Government must act fast to make petroleum products available especially during the yuletide period.
The union also called for the setting up of a multi-agency task force to decongest the Apapa highway to the depots and Tincan Island ports so that tankers and trucks can load products and goods without hindering the construction work currently going on in the area.

The Northern Traditional Rulers Council has expressed concern over the ‘alarming’ rate of drug abuse and drug addiction particularly among women and youths and called for the enforcement of laws on sales of drugs.
This formed part of the resolution stated in the communiqué issued at the end of the General Assembly of the council and signed by the chairman,  Coordinating Committee, Justice Lawal Hassan, Emir of Gummi.

The rulers also called for strict control of the borders to check illegal importation of drugs.
“The council noted with grave concern the alarming rate of drug abuse and drug addiction … In this regard, council resolved to partner with coalition of northern groups (CNG) to check the menace in the North in particular and the nation in general,” the communiqué said.
While appreciating the efforts of President Muhammadu Buhari on the anti-corruption war and the war on insurgency, the council resolved to continue to support the government towards achieving peace, stability and good governance.
The council described as sordid the condition of some IDP camps and the consequent suffering of the IDPs, and advised that all efforts be geared towards ameliorating the conditions of some of the camps.

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday ordered the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to recognise the Yobe State executive of the party led by Alhaji Gana Lawan for the purpose of its national convention holding on Saturday, November 9.
Ruling on an ex-parte motion filed by Lawan and 26 other members of the party against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the PDP and seven others, Justice Binta Murtala Nyako granted the seven prayers sought by the plaintiffs and restrained INEC, PDP, Chairman of PDP National Caretaker Committee, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, from “recognising any other person or group of persons as the authentic leadership or executive committee of the PDP in Yobe State except the party leadership structure duly elected and headed by the plaintiffs as the authentic officers of the Yobe State Executive Committee of the PDP pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.”

The court also restrained Alhaji Sani Inuwa Nguru from continuing to parade himself as the Chairman of the Yobe State Executive Committee (SEC) of the PDP pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
Justice Nyako also restrained the PDP and its national caretaker committee from taking any step to dissolve or otherwise replace the Gana Lawan faction as the authentic officers of the Yobe State Executive Committee of the PDP except by election due to be conducted in May, 2020, pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The judge also directed that the PDP was restrained from conducting any primary election in Yobe State except through the instrumentality of the plaintiffs in the organisation and conduct of the electoral college for the election of party candidates for general and other elections to public offices pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
The plaintiffs were also granted leave to serve the originating summons, as well as all other accompanying processes in the suit on Nguru and INEC; and outside the jurisdiction of the court and that they had the leave of the court to dispense with personal service and employ substituted means.
