FINALLY: The ruling party in Zimbabwe sacks Mugabe as leader

Embattled President Robert Mugabe has been sacked from his position as leader of the ruling ZANU-PF party and replaced by Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Reuters, citing sources at a special ZANU-PF meeting, reports that the decision that led to Mugabe’s replacement was reached on Sunday, November 19. “He has been expelled,” one of delegates told Reuters. Three other delegates who confirmed Mugabe’s dismissal said Mnangagwa was their new party leader.

Emmerson Mnangagwa was the vice-president who was removed by Mugabe for his preferred successor, his wife Grace.
