Suspected cult group shoots man in presence of Nursery pupils

Suspected cult members have shot a man who ran into Government Primary School, Henshaw Town, along Egerton, in Calabar, Cross River State capital.

The incident occurred on Wednesday around 10am when an unregistered tricycle that conveyed three occupants arrived the area from Ekeng Ewa Street.

An eyewitness only identified as Peter, said the victim and his friend, while sighting the suspected cult members, jumped into the classroom through the window and disrupted examinations being written by nursery pupils.

He narrated that the cult members jumped into the class and chased him around, shot him severally and inflicted machete cuts on him. He was left bleeding profusely.

The traumatised pupils and their teachers ran out of the classroom and declined speaking to our correspondent. But Peter said, “They drove on a tricycle popularly referred to as Keke. The victim did not die as at the time he was taken away to unknown destination by a Good Samaritan.

“The man ran into the school, jumping through the window into the class where the pupils were writing their exams. The traumatised pupils ran round the class room while the cultist chased the man until they shot him.

“After shooting him, and he fell down bleeding, they used machete to inflict more injuries on him. The ages of the children range from 5-7 years and the class was in nursery session.

“After shooting, they moved down towards Obong’s palace, stood there for a while and thereafter, entered the Keke and moved away. Yesterday night, they robbed from house to house, beginning from Anderson to the end and the suspected robbers were 16 in number,” he explained.
