The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Tuesday held that the prosecution had established prima facie cases in three- count charge out of the 18- count charge filed against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, over his trial on false assets declaration at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT). The Court of Appeal, therefore ordered Saraki, who was discharged and acquitted on March 14, 2017 by the CCT in the false asset declaration charge, should enter his defence on count 4, 5 and 6 of the charge filed by Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB). But the appellate court held that the prosecution who filed the appeal against the decision of the CCT was unable to establish prima facie case on counts 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9,10, 11, 13, 14,15,16,17 and 18 of the charge. In effect, the three man panel of Justices of the Court of Appeal (JCAs) unanimously set aside the verdict of the tribunal that acquitted and discharged Saraki over the offence of false assets declaration. Justice of the Court Appeal (JCA), Justice Tinuade Akomolafe-Wilson, who read the 70-page judgment, held that there was no evidence to sustain 15 out of the 18-count charge against Saraki. The JCA also held that the evidences relied upon by the prosecution were hear say evidences from the prosecution witnesses that have no probate value. The JCA further held that the 48 documents tendered by the federal government and admitted by the tribunal were not from the appropriate sources that were supposed to tender them before they could be admitted in line with provisions of the law.

The Group Managing Director of NNPC, Dr. Maikanti Baru made this known at Ibefun, Ogun State. venue of the launch of multi-billion dollar Oil and Gas Mega City project by Petrolex. The GMD said the queues which suddenly resurfaced in some petrol stations across the federation were masterminded by petrol marketers and distributors, who he stressed, chose to hoard available products in anticipation of increase in the pump price if fuel. He said the hoarding of fuel by marketers and distributors was needless, since according to him, NNPC had no plan to add a penny to the NI45 being the current pump price of petrol in Nigeria. Baru said NNPC at the moment can boast of adequate reserve of fuel, which according to him can last for the next 30 days with effective distribution. He said NNPC would not fold its arms to allow fuel distributors cause artificial scarcity of petroleum product, most especially as the yuletide approaches. He said officials of the Department of DPR and the PPRA had been instructed to move round the country to ensure effective supply of fuel and to stop the artificial scarcity being created. According to him, officials of NNPC on inspection will not hesitate to shut down any filling station found culpable of hoarding petroleum based on speculation of possible price increase. He stressed that punish fuel stations found culpable of hoarding fuel, NNPC officials on patrol will take the liberty to burst fuel tanks and in effect sell product fee to motorists to serve as deterrent to others.

Speaking at the brief handing over ceremony at the Conference Room of Federal Ministry of Works, Power and Housing in Abuja, Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, said the development was a testament of the commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to bring positive change to Lagos. Ambode particularly commended Buhari, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo; Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) and workers of the ministry; Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Chief of Staff to the President, and other stakeholders who worked to ensure the final transfer of the asset to Lagos. The governor said his administration would put the edifice to good use and transform it into a national monument to boost tourism and grow the economy of Lagos and Nigeria.
