Breaking: 1 dead as suspected herdsmen allegedly attack NNPC officials working in Benue

Some armed men suspected to be herdsmen allegedly attacked officials of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation while they were working in Benue state, Vanguard reports. One person died while several others were left injured in the attack. 

The incident reportedly occoured on Thursday, January 30 at Tse Torkula which is a border community between Nasarawa and Benue state in Guma local government area of the state. The officials came under heavy fire while working on the pipeline with one person killed while others were hospitalised. 

Mr. Fatai Owosenyi who is the commissioner for police reportedly confirmed the attack. He however said the attack could have been carried out by bandits operating in the area. Meanwhile, Seven persons were reportedly killed in Kadarko community of Keana local government area, Nasarawa state on Tuesday, January 30.

According to Channels TV, the attack is believed to have been carried out in retaliation for the slaughter of 73 cows by cattle rustlers on Sunday, January 28.
