1 more state for Ndigbo better than LG autonomy — Imo dep speaker

Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly, Mr.  Ugonna Ozuruigbo, has said instead of agitating for autonomy for local governments, people in the South East should rather demand for an extra state for the region.
There had been grievances from some sections over the rejection of the bill on local government autonomy by some lawmakers.

Ozuruigbo, who spoke to our correspondent in Owerri yesterday, said an additional state for the South East would be more beneficial to the region than autonomy for local governments, stressing that since federal allocations were shared on the basis of the number of states and local governments, an additional state in the South East would mean more revenue for the region.

He said, “This is my personal opinion; if we get one more state, we will get more revenue from the federation account. I think this is the more rational thing to do.”
Ozuruigbo further said the assembly was working hard to clean up the local government bill on time for the proposed June local government elections in the state.
