FORMER Delta State Governorship, Chief Sunny Onuesoke, yesterday said the ruling All progressive Congress, APC will collapse before the 2019 general elections.
Reacting to the call by Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed for the de-registration of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, Onuesoke said “I am not surprise that such a call is coming from the now infamous Minister of Information, whose name is now synonymous with lies and propaganda, the APC as a party is currently grasping for breath, the only thing keeping them going, is the single fact that they are still the unfortunate ruling party. “I assure you that before the 2019 elections, APC as a party will collapse. This may come as a surprise to you but the signals are already there. There is no denying the fact that the ruling party is divided along different interest, coupled with the recent tenure elongation of the party executives by the leadership of the party, which in itself is a contravention of its own constitution”. Saying that the call for the de-registration of PDP by Alhaji Lai Mohammed “is the last card left for a ruling party grasping for breath”, he said; “as a ruling party the APC has failed in all fronts, not only as a government but as a party in its own. “The division within the ranks of the ruling party is glaring to all that is why the ruling party has failed to conduct even a non-elective convention since it was given birth to”, adding that “I challenge them to conduct a national convention to elect new executives, if they will see the light of the day even before the 2019 general elections. “In their almost three years as a ruling party nothing has been achieved, one begin to wonder what they intend to use to campaign in the 2019 elections, no wonder they are calling for the de-registration of the main opposition party, in order to create room for a one party state, which is now their main goal since they have been rejected by Nigerians.”

Bawan Daji (Zamfara) – More than 30 persons were on Thursday buried in Bawan Daji village of Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara, following a gunmen attack on the village.

The bandits attacked the area after some members of the community held a meeting to discuss measures to be taken against the bandits during the 2018 farming season. The bandits had earlier threatened that there would be no farming activities in the area in this year’s rainy season. Liman Umar, one of the community leaders and the deputy Imam of the village, told newsmen that the bandits had been harassing people in the area, brandishing sophisticated weapons without talking to anyone. “It was shortly after our local vigilante members held the meeting on Tuesday that the bandits finally struck and killed only men including those who tried to escape,” Umar said He said many bodies were found decomposing in the bushes, and that some of the corpses could not be brought into the village for proper burial because people were afraid to go and get them as the bandits were believed to be hiding on the outskirts of the village. He said one of the villagers, Danladi Shabalai, who was caught communicating with the bandits, was shot and killed by security men. The Chairman of Anka Local Government, Alhaji Mustapha Gado, confirmed that 32 persons were buried including a woman and her child who died at a hospital in Gusau. Gado said more bodies were still being searched for in the bushes and that security measures had been stepped up in the area, but that the villagers had all ran away out of fear that the bandits might return. The Emir of Anka, Alhaji Attahiru Ahmad, who is also the Chairman of the state’s Council of Chiefs, lamented that the horrific incidences of bandits’ attacks had continued unabated in the area due to inadequate security.

Senator representing Yobe East, Bukar Ibrahim, said yesterday, that very serious negotiations were currently ongoing to ensure the release of Leah Sharibu, the only student of Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, Yobe State, still in the custody of Boko Haram.
Speaking on the floor of the Senate, yesterday, Ibrahim said Sharibu would be released not far from now.

“I want to reassure the distinguished Senators that very serious negotiations are going on and I believe not far from now, she would also be released Insha Allah, the last Dapchi and the remaining Chibok girls,” the Yobe senator said.

Moving a motion earlier, Emmanuel Bwacha, the senator representing Taraba South, urged the negotiating team to ensure the release of Sharibu and the remaining Chibok schoolgirls.

He said: “I rise to raise personal appeal to the negotiating team of the executive that ensured the release of the Dapchi girls.  I am doing this to appreciate them for their efforts to get a few of the Chibok girls and 98 percent of the Dapchi girls released.

“I want to appeal that they should double their efforts so that Nigerians would have hope in the effort they are doing to put confidence in the hearts of Nigerians.”

President Muhammadu Buhari had, while playing host to the 105 students released by Boko Haram last week, assured the nation that he would not relent until Leah Sharibu was release.
