Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers on Thursday night killed two policemen, and abducted 21 persons in Birnin Gwari area of Kaduna State. Eyewitness account said those abducted include Chairman, National Union of Road Transport Workers ( NURTW ), Birnin Gwari chapter, Audu Kano and six of his members. Also, kidnapped were two brides in a village, Unguwar Laya, about six kilometres from Birnin Gwari town. Eyewitness said the brides were abducted on Wednesday night.

Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar has since confirmed the incidents. However, a group under the auspices of Birnin Gwari Vanguards for Security and Good Governance has called on the State government to beef up security in the area.

Leader of the group who simply gave his name as Hassan said, “Every day and night our people keep vigil with their eyes widely open to defend themselves bravely without any weapon, even bows and arrows. Before we answer the call to the grave, can anybody help us to talk to our Governor, Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai?.

“We the people of Birnin-Gwari have been abandoned and our population is shrinking day by day. People are relocating to safe zones because of attacks from armed bandits virtually every minute. We are not certain of bumper harvest this year because many peasant  and commercial farmers had relocated. Many villages and towns are disappearing.

“In fact, even Nagwamatse of Kontagora that annexed Birnin-Gwari territory 100 years ago, didn’t destroy our land and territory compareg to what armed bandits are doing.

“We need to see our Governor Mallam El-Rufai or any senior government official. Security situation in Birnin-Gwari had further deteriorated, 2 brides abducted at Unguwar laya just 6 kilometers from Birnin-Gwari on Wednesday 11th April 2018. Again this evening, Thursday 12th April 2018,around 4.30pm  six NURTW members and their Chairman,  returning from Funtua were kidnapped together with 12 others.

“The NURTW members include Audu Kano,  Sufyanu Doka, Hamisu Anaruwa and 4 others. A Police inspector known as Danzuru was shot and presently at ABUTH Sheka, two other policemen killed today by the armed bandits.

“Two days ago, 15 newly recruited teachers on their way to Dogon Dawa were robbed and almost abducted. As at this moment Birnin-Gwari-Kaduna road is a nightmare for the past two weeks especially Palwaya, Kuriga-Manini axis.

“Birnin-Gwari has been abandoned and people were left at the mercy of armed bandits. Can someone whisper our cry to Mallam Nasir Ahmed El-Rufai and the top security echelon ? Seriously, we are alienated by those in authority. In case we didn’t survive the terror of armed bandits, let not those that abandoned us touch our coffins or go to our grave yard. We are at crossroad”.

tisfaction, the single mother of one, who recently went into hair business, made a very interesting choice. Inside Nollywood had asked her: “If the sex is bad but he is a good man and treats you like a queen, will you stay in the relationship or marriage?’

The Delta State-born movie star responded instantly: “As long as he has lots of money, why not? Who has good sex helped? Who cares when the shops are full of the right tools?”

Also, when asked about her family’s reaction when they got to know that she was pregnant out of wedlock, Ebeye said she was old enough to make her decisions.

Hear her: “When I told my mother that I was pregnant, she simply made me understand that it’s my life, my decision and not hers. Luckily for me, I have amazing parents. I have done my obligations as a child. So, there’s really nothing to worry about.”

President of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum (AYCF), Alhaji Shettima Yerima, has said that President Muhammdu Buhari, who has declared his interest to run for a second term, will be humiliated at the poll.

Speaking with VINCENT KALU, Alhaji Yerima noted that some failed governors, ministers and Buhari’s kitchen cabinet are mounting pressure on him to go on in order for them to be relevant and be in control of the nation.

Buhari has declared to recontest in 2019, what is your reaction to this?

We have expected this and we have already prepared for him. We are ensuring that every Nigerian youth obtains his or her voter’s card. We will ensure that we secure our votes and our votes count. We didn’t expect him to say that he was not going to contest. This is democracy and no one can deny him the right to contest.

He had admitted that he ought to have been doing something better than he is doing, but age and ill health have actually overtaken a lot of things in him. So, we were thinking that, as a man with integrity; a man who had said he would only go for one term, should understand that he would be under pressure put on him by his cabinet members and governors, who have failed and want to use him to be relevant.

Because of the president’s age, and health, these people want to control Nigeria, and they have to pressure him in order for them to remain in power. Since he has made up his mind, there is no problem, but we are going to ensure that he fails when the time comes.

You are sounding as if you have an axe to grind with him, is this because, as you have said in the past that he has not empowered the Northern youths?

It has nothing to do with appointments. Anybody who knows me from onset will testify that I have never looked for an appointment, I’m not a government contractor, but I stand on the path of righteousness, and that I would be remembered for even after death. If something is right, it is right and if it is wrong, it is wrong. I don’t have grudges against the president. One, he is a father to me, I have known him personally; I have worked with him and we have a relationship like father and son for a long time from 2003, and there is no doubt that he is like a father to me.

My position doesn’t have any personal grudge against him, it is about Nigeria, and I do not imagine that after all the years we have spent in the trenches, and putting my life in the fight against injustice, and all of a sudden, we have some characters, who have not paid any dues or made any sacrifices trying to undermine our democracy we have fought for. I’m worried about that.

If for instance, President Buhari has a cabinet made up of patriotic Nigerians, who are ready to work, and he dictates what goes on, we wouldn’t have problems, but not when he is not in charge of the government and some people took advantage of his weaknesses and start mismanaging Nigeria. This is deceitful and it can’t be allowed to continue. I have nothing personal against the president. Anybody who knows my record from Obasanjo’s regime, to Yar’Adua and to Jonathan will attest that I have been consistent. I criticise any government that implements anti-people policy in the best interest of the country. Where the government does well, I commend it.

We know he is under pressure by some governors, ministers and kitchen cabinet, we are also mindful that some of these governors have failed woefully and don’t have anything to show to their people, especially, the governors of Kaduna, Kogi and Zamfara, they are calamitous to our society. They have nothing to offer. If Buhari is not contesting, they are finished because they have allegedly amassed public funds. They cannot explain what they did with the Paris refund loan. Many of them are in a mess and to them, it is a do or die, but for us, it is not so. The tenet of democracy must come to play and all of us must ensure that we insist, advocate and sensitise Nigerian youths to get their PVC.

Former Minister of Information and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prince Tony Momoh, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari is the most prepared person for the presidency. Reacting to the declaration by Buhari to seek re-election, Prince Momoh, in an interview with VINCENT KALU, noted that the president has bright chances of winning and will score more votes because of his monumental achievements.

What are the chances of President Buhari getting re-elected?

For anybody to contest, there is one hurdle you have to pass, that is the party giving you the ticket. Announcing that you want to contest on the platform of APC is an expression of intention, and that becomes real when the party gives you ticket at a convention. If he gets the party tickets, he will campaign against other candidates, and whoever that Nigerians want would win at the end. However, his chances are very bright. One thing many people mistake for popularity and victory is the loudness of those who are shouting. So, the beautiful thing to be done is, go and register and on the day of election, go and cast your vote, wait for the votes to be counted and ensure that your vote counts.

Fortunately, INEC is there to do the needful, and to ensure free and transparent election. When Buhari was elected in 2015, he told INEC that ‘in 2003, I complained for being short changed; in 2007, I did the same and in 2011, I also did, and 2015, I have emerged, I don’t want anybody to complain that he was short changed during my tenure. Don’t rig any election for me, go and conduct elections, free and transparent’, he told INEC that. We are assured that INEC will follow the guidelines of the Constitution and the Electoral Act. He stands the chance of winning if the party gives him ticket.  The first hurdle is the party ticket. Having done that, we look at all the people who want to contest. I hosted in my office yesterday, someone who came from the US, he is a church leader and wants to be the president. He is highly focused and a youth. He is looking for a forum to choose, and if he chooses, he would be one of the candidates to beat. The advantage Buhari has is that he is the most prepared person for presidency. He didn’t come as someone who wanted to be a senator and became the president, he didn’t come as someone

who wanted to become a broadcaster and became a prime minister; he wasn’t in prison and the only thing he wanted was to be freed, and even he became a president. This man had wanted to be president in 2003, 2007, 2011, and in 2015, he succeeded. He didn’t just want to be president, he has a package, and he has been pursuing that package. He has attended to the economy, he has attended to security, and he has attended to infrastructure. Having done the four years, it will give him the opportunity in the next four years to improve on what he has started. His chances are very bright, incumbency is one of them; secondly, he didn’t have money when he scored so high, but now he doesn’t need money because wherever he goes to, people troop out to welcome him because of his achievements as president. There are a lot of things working for him and he would score more votes than in 2015.

You earlier said that Nigerians should stone you people if APC doesn’t perform, but everywhere you go, citizens are crying because of hardship, which they say your party brought. What is your reaction to this?

We are in a democracy. As Minister of Information, I gave Nigerians information; one, to satisfy your need for information; secondly, to give you the information to do what you like to do with it. So, people who are saying that APC has done nothing have a right through the information they have to achieve the aims they want, but that does not reduce from the fact that objectively, APC has done something. Whatever happens, I said stone us if we don’t perform, but some people are stoning us, not that we didn’t perform, but because they are in opposition and cannot appreciate that we are preforming. In the area of security, nobody would say that we have not tried. Nobody will say that the challenges we have in the Northeast, Middle Belt, South-south, Southeast, Southwest and even in the Northwest, are not being attended to. In the area of agriculture, nobody can say that we have not attended to eating what we grow, and growing what we want to eat. We came out of recession. There are a lot of things we have done.
