Immediate past governor of Edo State, and Chairmanship hopeful of the ruling All Progressives Congress, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, yesterday stated that President Muhammadu Buhari’s achievements would propel him to victory in 2019.
Oshiomhole, who declared this while addressing leaders of the APC in Edo State, predicted that despite the effort being made by the opposition to misinform Nigerians about the activities of the APC-led government, the APC would win more states in the governorship election and more National Assembly seats.

He said the campaigns for 2019 general elections would be interesting because his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), would reveal to Nigerians how the alleged looting of the nation’s treasury during the 16 years reign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), plunged Nigerians into poverty, “which the APC government under President Buhari was making effort to eliminate.”

According to Oshiomhole, who recently received the endorsement of President Buhari and the APC caucus in the Senate and House of Representatives to succeed Chief John Odigie-Oyegun as the National Chairman of the APC, “it is our task as party activist to painstakingly explain to our people in the rural areas who dug the hole that led to what we are experiencing today as a nation and the effort by President Buhari to gradually pull us out of that hole to the surface and begin to push and uplift us upward to that level in which every Nigerian will have to say I am a proud Nigerian.”
He continued: “Poverty is not an act of God; it is the result of our economic history. And when you look at the numbers of how much was stolen under the watch of Jonathan as President and the revelations made, the kind of money that was diverted under the PDP regime under President Jonathan, those monies if distributed by 180 million Nigerians, each of us will have a swollen pocket.
“And we must help our people to appreciate that the challenge of rebuilding a house that was rocked beyond foundation, to build complete new foundation cannot be an overnight work. What is important is that there is a commitment to refix and the President has broken new grounds which may not have been amplified to a level that the rural people can see them. Once upon a time, growing up, we were told that the Army’s finances are beyond probe and that whatever a general has stolen, it was for good, you cannot question.
“But this President has subjected the military to accountability. Some persons who were untouchable before are being touched. So, that fight against corruption, I am happy that even other African heads of states under the umbrella of the AU, have acknowledged President Buhari as one African President that has proved his sincerity to fight corruption. And I think even recently, the Secretary General of the Commonwealth also had very kind word to say about the leadership of our President on the war against corruption.

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday in the State House, Abuja, in his characteristic manner, jokingly said the seat of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo was under threat.
The president cracked the joke when he received a group of female parliamentarians from the 36 states of the federation who had paid him a courtesy visit.

The female lawmakers had alleged that women were being marginalised in the nation’s scheme of political affairs, noting that in each of the two chambers of the National Assembly since 1999, there is usually only one principal officer at a time.

Speaking on behalf of her colleagues, Mrs. Elizabeth Ativie, said Nigerian women henceforth, demand the emergence of women as vice-president from subsequent elections, beginning from 2019.
She also sought to extract the president’s commitment to the demand, stating that any commitment the president made right there “will become policy and subsequently law.” She insisted that “whenever the President is a man, the Vice President should be a woman.”
Ativie also demanded that in each of the three senatorial seats in each of the 36 states of the federation, a woman senator should always emerge from the next general election.
According to her, in the House of Representatives as well, “where there are nine House of Representatives members, the men should take six and leave three for women”.
Responding, Buhari in a humorous tone, said it was unfortunate that the Vice-President was not present at the meeting to witness the threat to his seat.
However, he added in the same humorous manner that the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, would convey the women’s demand to him.
“It is a pity that the Vice-President is not here, but I am sure the Secretary to the Government of the Federation will brief him that his position is threatened,” Buhari said.
