Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, has officially flagged off the move to pick the presidential ticket of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) by meeting with the national leadership of the party in Abuja.

“I believe that if we sustain the feat recorded during the governorship primary in Ekiti State in other primaries that will come, this party is destined to reclaim its role and retrieve power generally through our electoral process. If there was anything that really affected the performance of this party, it was the way and manner primaries were conducted and how candidates were selected but with the precedent you have set, we are on our way to reclaiming power in 2019.

“This meeting is not intended for anything other than my desire to seek the presidential ticket of the party. I am here to put you on notice and I believe that I should do this before reaching out to other organs of the party. I want thank you and look forward to working with you,” he said.

Atiku also cleared the doubt about his loyalty, saying, “whether as presidential candidate or not, you can always expect me to fulfill my obligations as a loyal member”.

In his remark, Secondus said leadership of the PDP was determined to return the party to its original vision of the founding fathers.

He said that it was for this reason that the leadership’s first agenda was to rebrand and reposition the party. “We have removed all those impediments of imposition, of impunity, from the dictionary of the National Headquarters of our party.

“I promise you, that by the grace of God, that there will be free, fair, transparent primaries, and as you noted that we did well in Ekiti State, we will do more because we have no choice so as to restore the confidence of Nigerians because Nigerians are yearning for the return of PDP, and the best we can offer is to be free and fair to all aspirants.”

N/Assembly to Buhari: New Projects Included in Budget to Address Imbalances
Sat, 23 Jun 2018

The National Assembly yesterday justified its inclusion of new projects in the 2018 budget, saying it did this to address the geo-political imbalances in the spread of capital projects in the 2018 appropriation bill.

While signing the budget on Tuesday, President Muhammadu Buhari had disclosed that the National Assembly made budget cuts to the tune of N347 billion originally meant to execute 4,700 projects and smuggled fresh 6,403 projects with N578 billion allocations into the budget.

[better-ads type=”banner” banner=”36″ campaign=”none” count=”2″ columns=”1″ orderby=”rand” order=”ASC” align=”center” show-caption=”1″][/better-ads]

Presenting a 22-page reaction to Buhari’s alleged budget distortion by the National Assembly, the legislature argued that the number of projects had to be increased in order to give a sense of belonging to every geo-political zone of the country and to ensure socio-economic justice, equity, fairness, and national loyalty.

The Presidency reacted immediately in a press statement, insisting that the budget was distorted by the lawmakers and further alleged that they raised constituency allocations from N100 billion to N270 billion.

At the joint press briefing by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Media and Public Affairs, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, alongside his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Hon. Abdulrazak Namdas, the lawmakers appealed to all executive appointees of Buhari to ensure that he’s properly briefed with the truth and facts of their engagement, “so as to promote healthy and harmonious relationship between the executive and the legislature.”

BPE asks NERC for 14 Days to Resolve Ibadan Distribution Company Issues
Sat, 23 Jun 2018

The Bureau of Public Enterprises has appealed to the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) not to go ahead with an order cancelling and revoking Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC), as doing so would trigger off certain provisions in the performance agreement with grave consequences to the federal government.

Instead, the Bureau suggested that it be given two weeks to resolve the matter amicably and urged NERC to reconsider its stand and order so as to accommodate their concerns.

In a letter dated June 20, 2018 with reference number BPE/LSCS/NERC/2018/26 addressed to the Chairman of NERC, the Bureau acknowledged receipt of the order but pleaded for time to peacefully resolve the issues.

The letter titled, “Re: Order No: NERC/181/2018: In the Matter of an Application of the Enforcement Regulation for the Nigerian Electricity Supply Industry Pursuant to the Electric Power Sector Reform Act”, and signed by Director General of the Bureau, Alex. O Okoh, the Bureau said it was well seized of the matter leading to the order on IBEDC, which was the findings of NERC on the Open book review of the financial records of the distribution company that culminated in the Notice of Intention to Commence Enforcement (NICE) issued by NERC expecting responses to the allegations.

“However as a sister agency of government, the Bureau is particularly concerned about certain provisions in the said order, which directly impacts on the activities of the Bureau; first as the statutory holder of federal government equity investment in the IBEDC which is 40 per cent and second also the shareholders agreement entered into by and between BPE, MOFI, Integrated Energy Distribution and Marketing Limited and IBEDC, in particular we refer to the following provisions in the said order.
