Convulsions in APC
Wed, 25 Jul 2018

BUY OR SELL OLD AND NEW CARS, PARTS, CAR MATERIALS AS CAR MART NG LAUNCH IN NIGERIA

An alleged plot to remove the two presiding officers of the Senate, yesterday, could not stop the defection of 14 senators from the All Progressives Congress, APC, to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on a day of high drama that was heralded by the police siege to the homes of the two presiding officers.

The defection set a scenario of convulsion that put two different political parties controlling the Presidency and the Senate. The similar defection of 37 members of the APC to the PDP in the House of Representatives was, however, not enough to swing control of the House towards the PDP.

APC Senate Leader, Senator Ahmed Lawan however insisted yesterday that his party still retains the majority in the Senate. The defections in the two chambers of the National Assembly were heralded by the early morning drama of the siege by the police to the homes of Senate President Bukola Saraki and his deputy, Senator Ike Ekweremadu. The siege to Saraki’s residence was preceded by a Police invitation to him on Monday night to report by 8.00 a.m. yesterday in connection with what the Police said was an investigation into the Offa robbery incident.

Ekweremadu was also asked in a letter dated July 24 and delivered to him, yesterday, to also report by 10.00 a.m. at the office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC to clarify its investigation on a money laundering investigation being conducted by the agency. The invitations, Vanguard gathered yesterday, was also part of a script to keep the two presiding officers away from the chambers. Meanwhile, a number of pro-Presidency senators, who were part of the plot to be used in effecting a change in the leadership of the Senate, were lodged in the Transcorp Hotel, about one kilometre away from the National Assembly complex. Early yesterday orning, they were moved into the complex in a white Coaster bus for the showdown.

Invasion of Saraki, Ekweremadu residencies: Allow Security Agencies to do their work ‘ Presidency

Wed, 25 Jul 2018

THE Presidency Tuesday said that President Muhammadu Buhari does not direct the security agencies on what to do and urged the public to allow security agencies to do their jobs according to the law of the land. The Presidency also stated that the law of the land does not discriminate against the citizenry no matter their position in the society and that anybody that commits any infraction should be able to defend himself. A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba, in Abuja, the Presidency stated that the country will become a better place when law enforcement agencies were allowed to do their jobs without undue politicisation.

[better-ads type=”banner” banner=”13566″ campaign=”none” count=”2″ columns=”1″ orderby=”rand” order=”ASC” align=”center” show-caption=”1″][/better-ads]

The statement read, “The Presidency has taken note of the orchestrated campaign against President Muhammadu Buhari each time a Very Important Person (VIP) is invited by the law enforcement agencies, in the discharge of their legitimate duties and functions. “The law of the land is intended for all, not for the poor or those at the lowest rungs of the social ladder. “It is odd, strange and bizarre that while ordinary citizens can be called up to answer questions or be interrogated, the VIP cannot be questioned without the annoying insinuations of partisanship, persecution or outright politicization.

“This country cannot achieve development in peace when important cases are viewed through a political prism and the law is considered as being applicable to some, and not applicable to others. “The workings of law enforcement agencies are set out in the constitution and the laws of the country. If they worked at the discretion of past presidents, who decided who to question and who to detain, Nigerians should get used to the fact that this President is different. President Buhari does not and will not influence or interfere with cases.

“The constitution clearly directs law enforcement agencies to promptly report and investigate any actual or potential infringement of the law and also initiate proceedings against all those involved. “This President is not the one who directs them on what to do.” Continuing it stated, “President Buhari does not stand in the way of law enforcement either. Under our constitution, he has no powers to stop the investigation of anyone or institution.

[better-ads type=”banner” banner=”13566″ campaign=”none” count=”2″ columns=”1″ orderby=”rand” order=”ASC” align=”center” show-caption=”1″][/better-ads]

When they are set to investigate anything and anyone, the best friend of the law is the one who lets them do their work. “The President’s constant refrain is that he will not tolerate any form of illegality including corruption and the law enforcement agencies have been given complete freedom to identify and bring all culprits to justice. His instructions to them are very clear: Anyone with a case to answer or found guilty should not be spared.
