APC, 20 others join forces to tackle anti-Buhari coalition
Wed, 11 Jul 2018

Twenty-four hours after a group of 38 parties announced the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) to wrest power from President Muhammadu Buhari, another group of 20 political parties yesterday joined forces with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in an alliance to form the Coalition of Progressives Political Parties (CPPP)

Also yesterday, Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) Chairman and former Kaduna State Governor Balarabe Musa described the coalition against Buhari “as an act of opportunism.”

A presidential aspirant of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) also lashed out at the PDP-led coalition for its “lack of any real agenda to improve the lives of Nigeria.”

There are 68 registered political parties and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is considering the application for registration of about 138 others.

The political parties in pro-Buhari’s CPPP which met in Abuja yesterday, are: All Progressives Congress (APC), Accord Party, Peoples Democratic Movement (PDM), United Progressive Party (UPP), Advanced People’s Democratic Alliance (APDA), Hope Democratic Party (HDP), Democratic Peoples Party (DPP) and Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN).

Others are: Freedom Justice Party (FJP), Fresh Party (FP), New Nigeria’s Peoples Party (NNPP), Nigeria’s Peoples Congress (NPC), Nigeria Peoples Movement (NPM), Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), National Action Congress (NAC) and NDLP.

The chairman of the coalition, who is also the National chairman of PDM, Alhaji Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, told reporters after hours of meeting at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja that the coalition was made up of like-minded political parties who believe in Nigeria’s unity and stability.

He noted that the coalition, which was formed in 2014 ahead of the 2015 presidential election aligned with the candidature of President Buhari, then the APC candidate.

Ibrahim said the coalition was merely resurrected to counter the orchestrated PDP coalition against the APC-led government.

Berating the PDP coalition, he said the parties were driven by selfishness and hunger to capture power in 2019.

He explained that the parties that formed the coalition with the PDP lacked the agenda to drive a new Nigeria.

The PDM chairman alleged that most of the parties in the PDP coalition were fraudulently included to sign the MoU to deceive Nigerians.

He noted that while the Accord Party chairman and his party, the PDM, among others, abstained from the PDP meeting, their parties’ names were listed without their consent. This, he said, raised doubts about the credibility of the coalition.

He said: “Yesterday (Monday) we woke up to a new development where PDP outside power has now managed to create another coalition. As facts continue to emerge, they listed 36 political parties. Our analysis of that coalition reveals that a number of political parties were included in that coalition fraudulently.

“Part of the 42 political parties they listed is Accord party and the chairman of the party is here with us. If you are creating a coalition, you need to be honest about it as to who and who are members of the coalition.

Ekiti must grow beyond stomach infrastructure, says Buhari
Wed, 11 Jul 2018

President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday urged the people of Ekiti State to vote for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Saturday’s governorship election.

He said the people of the Fountain of Knowledge should not allow themselves to be insulted by the stomach infrastructure policy being promoted by Governor Ayo Fayose.

The nation’s number one citizen said Ekiti should grow beyond stomach infrastructure vote APC to enjoy god governance, development, better standard of living and infrastructure development.

He expressed regrets that many politicians have been capitalising on the herdsmen crisis in some parts of the country accusing him of not doing anything because he is Fulani.

Describing the allegation as a “cheap blackmail,” Buhari said protection of life and property of Nigerians is paramount to him noting that measures are being taken to put an end to the herdsmen’s onslaught.

Buhari spoke on Tuesday at the grand finale governorship rally held at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado-Ekiti, the state capital, where APC national leaders and governors canvassed for votes for the flag bearer, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The President described Fayemi as competent, capable and experienced enough to be elected governor again noting that the APC flag bearer served excellently well as Minister of Mines and Steel Development.

He said Ekiti get its fair share of resources and projects from the Federal Government despite the political difference between the government at the centre and state government.

Joining Buhari at the rally are Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Mr. Boss Mustapha; Governors Abdulazeez Yari (Zamfara), Abubakar Sani Bello (Niger), Yahaya Bello (Kogi), Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo), Rauf Aregbesola (Osun), Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun), Atiku Bagudu (Kebbi), Kashim Shettima (Borno), Umaru Al Makura (Nasarawa) and Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki represented by his deputy, Philip Shaibu.

Ministers who attended the rally include Rotimi Amaechi (Transportation), Babatunde Fashola (Power, Works and Housing), Chris Ngige (Labour and Employment), Ogbonnaya Onu (Science and Technology), Adebayo Shittu (Communications) and Abdulrahman Danbazzau (Interior).

Thousands of residents defied Fayose’s order to stay at home and thronged the stadium to welcome the President who first paid courtesy visit to the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adeyemo Adejugbe and other traditional ruler at the palace.

Commercial activities were going on at the city’s main markets while many commercial drivers and motorcycle riders plied their trade on the major roads.

Ex-Ondo Dep. governors girl: I reported suspect to police, says dad
Wed, 11 Jul 2018

Alhaji Alani Adeniyi Alao, the father of Adeyemi Alao, the key suspect in the murder of Khadijat Oluboyo, daughter of immediate past Ondo State Deputy Governor Lasisi Oluboyo, said he handed over his son to the police.

Alao said he handed the suspect over to the police when his other children reported the shock find of the victim’s body in his son’s room to him.

But he declined to speak further on the matter.

The mother of the 27-year-old suspect and three others living in the same compound, where the body was discovered, have gone into hiding for fear of possible arrest, it was gathered.

One of the neighbours said Adeyemi lived with some tenants in the boys’ quarters of his father’s house where the body of the girl was discovered in a grave inside his room.

Adeyemi, the first son of the family, had just returned from Abuja where he observed his national youth service before carrying out the suspected killing of his girlfriend, a final year student of the Adekunle Ajasin Univerity (AAU), Akungba- Akoko, last week.

Adeyemi, 27, is described as a quiet young man who always kept to himself and seldom greeted people.

The neighbour, who spoke in confidence, added: “Khadijat’s ghost appeared to Mutiu, who is Adeyemi’s brother.

“It was Mutiu who reported to his father and the father told him to rush to the ‘B’ Division Police Station before Adeyemi was arrested.”

Adeyemi was said to have dug a grave in his room where he buried Khadijah for six days before he was arrested.
