A professor of Political Science at the Bayero University, Kano,  Prof. Kamilu Sani Fage, has identified leadership as  the bane  of the country’s underdevelopment.

Fage said this on Monday as a lead speaker on leadership re-engineering and national transformation at  the  just concluded annual national management conference, which took place in Kano.

The conference, which ended, on Tuesday, was organised by the Nigeria Institute of Chartered Management. He stressed that in the last six decades, successive Nigerian governments had invested a lot in the task of national development, but in spite of this however, there is a general feeling that leadership remains the bane of the country’s underdevelopment.

He noted that though Nigeria is blessed with abundant natural and human resource, its leaders had failed to effectively and efficiently mobilise such resources for national development.

“Our leaders have failed. They are unable to deliver results, despite the country’s enormous resources at their disposal.  They are not  in sync with the populace,” he added.

Fage criticised the country’s leadership and said instead of evolving progressive policies that would meet the yearnings and aspirations of the populace, “they are a bunch of self-centred individuals, pursuing policies that are beneficial to them and their cronies.”
