Osun re-run: Zero hour for Adeleke, Oyetola
Thu, 27 Sep 2018

BUY OR SELL OLD AND NEW CARS, PARTS, CAR MATERIALS AS CAR MART NG LAUNCH IN NIGERIA

Several factors will decide today’s governorship re-run in seven polling units, across four local governments in Osun State.
Some of the factors include religion, money power and the disposition of angry workers.

Zoning and voter apathy may not influence today’s poll as the two major political parties, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) roll out their arsenal for a final showdown in a battle for the soul of the state, today.

The battleground for votes are Ife North, Ife South, Orolu and Osogbo.

The outcome will determine the eventual winner.

Although former deputy governor of the state and candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Senator Iyiola Omisore, is supporting the All Progressives Congress (APC) in today’s re-run, National Chairman of his party, Chief Olu Falae, has washed his hands off the deal.
Falae said late last night that Omisore struck the deal all by himself and for himself.

Regardless, security operatives, including soldiers, police and officers of the Department of State Services (DSS) have also been deployed to the state; to avoid breakdown of law and order.

It was gathered that some politicians of the two major political parties have relocated to communities where the election will hold, even as they have allegedly begun gradual inducement of voters in the area.
Police Armoured Vehicles and Hilux vans, belonging to the DSS paraded the streets of Osogbo and Ile-Ife, yesterday. Police helicopters also hovered in Osogbo and some other towns where the election will hold including Ifon, Ifetedo and Ipetumodu.

Also, primary and secondary schools in the communities where the election will hold closed early yesterday, just as many shops were not opened for fear of attack.

Police have, however, assured that necessary measures have been put in place to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order during the re-run election.

Police Public Relations Officer for the state Command, Mrs. Folasade Odoro, said the police in collaboration with other security agencies are ready to ensure a peaceful conduct of the re-run election.

She also disclosed that the PDP leader in Osogbo, who was arrested two days ago, Alhaji Fatai Diekola, has given useful information that could help in their investigation of alleged buying of PVCs.

Forty-eight political parties contested the governorship election last Saturday.

But, by Sunday, PDP candidate, Ademola Adeleke, polled 254,698 votes, winning 12 councils; while APC’s Gboyega Oyetola, who is a cousin to the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, came second with 254,345 votes. He won in 15 councils.

Omisore came third, with over 128,000 votes.

But, the Returning Officer for the election, Professor Joseph Fuwape, Vice Chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, said even though the PDP candidate led with a difference of 353 votes, it was not enough to declare him winner, going by INEC’s guidelines

2019: With good candidate PDP’ll easily defeat Buhari ‘ Afegbua
Thu, 27 Sep 2018

Ahead of the presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), spokesman of the Reformed All Progressives Congress (RAPC), Kassim Afegbua has said that Sokoto State governor, Aminu Tambuwal, is better placed to win next year’s presidential election for the opposition party.

What makes you think Governor Aminu Tambuwal stands out from other PDP presidential aspirants?
Tambuwal is a man I have known for many years. He is a detribalised Nigerian, who is not given to nepotism, cronyism, bigotry and what have you. Amongst his very close aides and workers are Nigerians from other parts of the country, not necessarily from the north, and from different faiths. He is one Nigerian who reaches out to the ordinary man. Even as Speaker of the House of Representatives, he was still connecting with his friends and coming to ask about ideas, innovations that will help move the legislature. He cuts across all ages; he is 52 years old. He is like middle of the road kind of. He represents the youths and also a bridge to the elderly.
So, if there is a consensus that we must move away from this gerontocracy so to speak; we need to look at individuals, who have the capacity to coordinate all the divergent views, opinions in the country to build a synergy that can drive the wheel of governance and Tambuwal falls into that estimation.

There are so many things that are wrong with this government. And so many things that are not been done properly. But by the time, you speak to these issues, they see you as bad opposition person or that you don’t just like the government.

But this is our country. We cannot run away. We have to help to build this country. I am part and parcel of those who worked to bring this President to power. Even Tambuwal was part of it. But the promise that we made to Nigerians, the government has not been able to implement them. Almost three and half years down the line, we can’t lay our hands concretely on anything and say the promises have been fulfilled. The restructuring that we talked about, what have they done about it? Nothing. It was number one on the manifesto. We campaigned with it saying this is what the government will be. What has been done about it?
