The state PDP Publicity Secretary, Yayanuwa Zainabari, exclusively hinted DAILY POST in an interview
in Bauchi, saying Tela was chosen unanimously by the party leadership, the governorship candidate ‎and other stakeholders.

According to him, Tela was rewarded for his loyalty and sacrifice for the development of the party in the ‎state.

Zainabari said that the governorship candidate had earlier shown his interest to contest for Bauchi North senatorial district ticket in the 2019 general elections.

He said Tela was persuaded by the party to step ‎down for the incumbent, Senator Sulaiman Nazif, who joined the party after he left the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“He had earlier wanted to contest ‎for Bauchi North Senate seat but he stepped down when the issue of giving automatic ticket to the two senators who joined the party came up. ”That is why he was considered and picked as running mate to our candidate,” he said.

The selection of Senator Tela was seen ‎as a strategic move by the PDP to neutralise the ruling APC in Bauchi North, particularly Katagum Emirate in the 2019 elections.

Both the incumbent, Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar and the PDP candidate‎, Senator Bala Mohammed are from Bauchi South.

Governor Abubakar’s deputy, Architect Audu Sule Katagum and Senator Bala Mohammed’s running mate, Senator Tela, are also from Katagum Emirate.
