The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, yesterday declared that next month’s general elections present the perfect opportunity to liberate Nigeria from rising poverty and pervasive misrule. Abubakar, a former Vice President, said the current administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has failed, adding that only restructuring, which is being advocated by the main opposition party, can get Nigeria working again. He spoke at the Annual New Year Thanksgiving and Memorial Service organised by former Governor of Ogun State and Director-General of Atiku Campaign Organisation, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, held at the Abraham’s Tabernacle, Sagamu.

The event attracted notable politicians, traditional rulers, religious leaders, captains of industries and eminent personalities from all walks of life. Atiku, who was the special guest of honour, observed that the majority of Nigerians have suffered from bad governance and poor management of the economy. Represented by his wife, Mrs Titi Abubakar, the former vice president said he was in the presidential election to reverse the negative narrative under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and restructure the country to meet the yearnings of the citizens. He urged people to come out with their Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) on February 16 to vote out the ruling party and return the PDP to power
