First time voters express anxiety, excitement

As residents of the FCT join the rest of Nigerians to vote in the Saturday, February 16, 2019, presidential and National Assembly elections, Aso Chronicle reporters spoke with young voters who will be participating in elections for the first time.

Many of those who spoke with our reporters recently turned 18 and are eligible to vote. They could not hide their enthusiasm and hoped that their votes would count and make significant impact on their communities.

Usman Musa, who resides in Wuse Zone VI, said he was happy that he was finally going to vote the candidate of his choice after waiting to reach the legal age to exercise his franchise.

“My vote is not for sell, and no one can even attempt buying it. My vote is for my people and I will defend the vote and make sure it counts,” he said.

Grace Chike, who is also a first-time voter, said she would vote, defend and make sure her vote counted for a better future of the country.

“This election is all about the future, and this is the time to plan for the future, the future is now with our PVCs. I have not made up my mind yet, but surely I will vote for a credible candidate that will protect the interest of the common citizen,” she said.
