The All Progress Congress (APC) in Oyo state has demanded the arrest and immediate prosecution of the governorship candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Engineer Seyi Makinde, for allegedly breaching the electoral laws.
The ruling party, according to a report by The Nation, made the call on Sunday, March 10, in a petition addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) through its resident electoral commissioner in the state. Legit.ng gathers that the petition tagged “Petition against Engr. Seyi Makinde on electoral offences committed in breach of electoral laws” has been submitted to the Agodi office of the commission.
Signed by the APC state secretary, Mojeed Olaoya, the party demanded the arrest of the PDP candidate for “pointedly proclaiming himself the winner of the governorship election” held in the state on Saturday, March 9 in a viral video. The party said what Makinde did contravene the electoral law, noting that “INEC, the authorised umpire, has not concluded the same nor declared any such results.”
