They’ve puzzled star gazers for centuries, but gradually astronomers are learning more about mysterious black holes.Black holes are collapsed giant stars where the gravity is so strong even light doesn’t get out.A supermassive black hole, called Sagittarius A, is parked at the center of our galaxy, the Milky Way. It’s four million times as massive as our sun.Our Earth is estimated to be about 24,000 to 30,000 light years away from the center of our galaxy. A supermassive black hole is the largest type of black hole known.”Black holes are thought to evolve at the end of a lifetime of a star, and you can think of a star collapsing in on itself to make a super, super dense object,” explains Roger Highfield, science director at London’s Science Museum.
