Published on Jul 26, 2019Following the death of incumbent President Beji Caid Essebsi, Tunisia is to bring forward the planned November presidential election by several weeks, the country’s electoral commission has said.Parliament Speaker Mohammed Ennaceur, who was sworn in as interim president on Thursday, has 90 days to organise a presidential election under the country’s constitution, commission head Nabil Baffoun told the AFP news agency.That means the poll must be held by October 23. Meanwhile, parliamentary elections had previously been set for October 6.Beji Caid Essebsi was elected president after protests that toppled a dictator and sparked a wave of anti-government movements in the Middle East.
