The decision of the tribunal on the election of Salam, who is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), came on Monday, September 2. Ruling that there was over-voting during elections in four local government areas, the tribunal annulled the results of the polls and ordered a rerun. Meanwhile, Legit.ng reported that the immediate past governor of Osun, Rauf Aregbesola, on Saturday, July 6, reportedly declared himself the godfather of politics in the state following his successful handing over to Gboyega Oyetola, the successor he wished. Nigerian Tribune reports that Aregbesola said this at a victory celebration organized in his honor by a group within the state All Progressives Congress (APC).
“Having successfully handed over to a progressive governor of my wish and I am sure that after his tenure, he will hand over to a successor of his choice too I will relax as a ‘godfather’ and enjoy myself without any stress,” Aregbesola reportedly said in the Yoruba language.
